The City of Belo Horizonte published in the Official Gazette of the Municipality this Friday the new rules and restrictions on the operation of commerce in the capital. The decree will enter into force next Monday (11), indefinitely.

The closure of non-essential trade in BH was announced on Wednesday (6) by Mayor Alexandre Kalil. The decision was made after a virtual meeting between the Executive Director and the Covid-19 Epidemic Confrontation Committee.

In a video on social media, Kalil explained the decision and apologized to the people of BH. “We reached the limit of covid-19. We warned it would be a danger. We tried to keep the city open for almost ten more days, when the numbers were still dangerous, but we had at least an expectation of responsibility,” he said Wednesday.

The measure comes amid the advance of the disease in the city. According to the PBH bulletin this Thursday (7), Belo Horizonte occupies 85.1% of ICU beds for covid-19. The occupancy of the wards of patients with the disease is 62.5%. The RT, which measures the speed of transmission of the virus, at 1.05. This means that each group of 100 people has transmitted the virus to 105.

According to the bulletin, from Wednesday (6) to Thursday (7), BH registered 1,068 cases and eight deaths from the new coronavirus. Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 66,916 infected and 1,923 deaths from covid-19 in the city. 61,111 people recovered from the disease and 3,890 are being monitored.
