The government of São Paulo received the contract signed by the Ministry of Health for the purchase of 46 million doses of CoronaVac. The information was confirmed at Twitter by Governor João Doria (PSDB) on video.
“In fact, the Ministry of Health has now sent, at 7 o’clock in the afternoon, the electronically signed contract for the acquisition of doses of the Butantan vaccine, which we always want, by the way. Since October 20, we should have had available this contract, “Doria said on video.
The signature comes after a long swing by the Ministry, which had already announced the purchase of the same number of doses of CoronaVac in October, but returned after the public disapproval of President Jair Bolsonaro (without a party). Since then, the São Paulo government has taken a cautious position.
In December, after a meeting with Pazuello, Secretary of State for Health Jean Gorinchteyn joked about the relationships. For him, the ministry kept proposing “a courtship”, but the state government wanted “to get married, with signed paper.”
“Now, the Ministry of Health has sent the contract to the Butantan Institute. What we want most is for the Butantan vaccine to serve all of Brazil, serve all Brazilians,” said Doria, who, this afternoon, announced the 78% of effectiveness of CoronaVac with the president of the institute, Dimas Covas.
The announcement was made by Pazuello at a press conference this afternoon. In addition to the 46 million, there were another 54 million at the end of the year, reaching a total of 100 million in 2021. Suspecting after a successive federal swing, Doria recalled an interview with GloboNews that the ministry had already reversed the purchase and, therefore, would wait for the signature.

Especially because, to be signed, it has to be signed by both parties, and there is no signature from either the São Paulo government or the Ministry of Health Until now, we have the drafting of the contract, but not the signatures. The purchase price, according to the Official Gazette of the Federation, is R $ 2,677,200,000.00. The publication was signed by two employees of the Ministry of Health: Ramon da Silva Oliveira (alternate general coordinator of Strategic Supplies Procurement for Health) and Roberto Ferreira Dias (Director of the Department of Sanitary Logistics).
