The federal government should announce, in the coming days, the Bolsa Família 2021 calendar, which this year may be expanded to serve more people, as anticipated by the Secretary of the National Treasury, Bruno Funchal, on December 16, 2020.
According to the secretary, the amount to expand the program would come from the reallocation of other items in the 2021 Budget. “It is a program that has worked. If necessary, it is obvious, respecting our spending limit and budget reallocation, [o Bolsa Família] yes, it can be revised upwards ”, said Funchal, reinforcing that an eventual expansion of the program will only occur if the resources are available.
The secretary also highlighted that the 2021 Budget proposal, pending in Congress, foresees an increase of R $ 5.4 billion in the allocation of Bolsa Família in relation to this year. “This increase occurred due to the expectation that, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, more families will begin to meet the eligibility criteria of the program,” justified Funchal.
In 2020, Bolsa Família’s calendar began on January 20.
Withdrawal period
Bolsa Família, the government’s main social program after the end of emergency aid, had its withdrawal period extended from 90 days to 270 days. The ordinance of the Ministry of Citizenship was published on 30 Union Official Gazette.
According to the text, the legislation establishes that the withdrawal period of the program can be extended in municipalities with a declaration of a state of emergency, as is the case with the covid-19 pandemic. In addition, the measure aims to avoid crowds at payment sites, as a way to prevent, control and contain the risks of spreading the new coronavirus.
The extension will be counted from the date of availability of the benefit portion. It will also apply to all Bolsa Família fees made available for payment during the emergency situation caused by covid-19 and that remain in force, in accordance with the program’s operational and payment schedule.
