Alexandre Mattos is no longer the football director of Athletic-MG. The club confirmed the coach’s departure on Monday morning (04), when Sérgio Coelho officially assumed the club’s presidency. The executive had a contract until the end of 2021 and provided for a fine in the event of a break.
According to the club, Mattos’ departure from office was a ‘decision of the special collegiate body’, which includes President Sérgio Coelho, Vice President José Murilo Procópio and advisers and supporters Rubens Menin, Ricardo Guimarães, Renato Salvador and Rafael Menin.
Announced in March 2020 as Atlético-MG football director after facing problems taking over Reading (ING), Alexandre Mattos was in charge of most of the club’s signings in the reformulation promoted in the cast, and participated in the conquest of the Mineiro Championship in the last year.
See statement issued by the club:
On Monday, January 4, Clube Atlético Mineiro rescinded the contract with football director Alexandre Mattos.
The termination of the relationship with Alexandre Mattos is the result of a decision of the special collegiate body, made up of President Sérgio Coelho, Vice President José Murilo Procópio and advisers and supporters Rubens Menin, Ricardo Guimarães, Renato Salvador and Rafael Menin.
By decision of this body, it was decided to form a team of officials according to the administrative profile and purposes of this newly created council.
The change in soccer management converges with the new management policy that will permeate El Gallo in the coming years, with a focus on administrative austerity, through best governance practices; in the restructuring of the basic categories; in the construction of the MRV Arena; and maintain a highly competitive professional team.
The Club Atlético Mineiro thanks the former director for the services provided and wishes him success in future professional challenges.
