Following a decision by the Amazon Court of Justice (TJAM), which determined the general closure of non-essential activities of Amazonian commerce for 15 days, as a way to contain the spread of the Covid-19 contagion in Manaus, the streets of The center of the capital was completely blocked with bars and began to be monitored by teams of the Military Police of Amazonas, starting today (3), as a way to prevent the operation of shops and services in the main streets of the region.
In Emilio Moreira street, which concentrates a large number of street vendors, shops and banking institutions, access will be open only to residents and those who work in essential activities, such as pharmacies located in the section.
Access to the main establishments on Marechal Deodoro and Dr. Moreira streets, which intersect with Rua José Paranaguá, located in front of Praça Heliodoro Balbi (better known as Praça da Polícia), will also be restricted to residents, employees of banking institutions. – only for internal operation – and pharmacy workers.
During Sunday, the vehicles of the Military Police were already available to monitor the pedestrian crossing, in order to prepare the operation of downtown Manaus on the first business day of the year, this Monday, January 4.
The decision
Immediately, the decision of the judge on duty replaced the decision of the Government of Amazonas, which relaxed, on December 28, the first state decree that determined the closure of non-essential activities. The fine for non-compliance with the decision is R $ 50 thousand. The judge also ordered the use of police force to preserve public order and enforce the decision.
