The 2020 Libertadores has not finished yet -the semifinals will begin to be played next Tuesday (5), between Palmeiras and River Plate, and the fourth (6), between Santos and Boca Juniors-, but the next edition of the main tournament in South America already has confirmed more than half of its teams. Of the 47 clubs that will participate in the Libertadores 2021 (counting the two preliminary phases), 29 are already guaranteed. And the duo Boca and River, guess what, is already guaranteed.
None of those confirmed is Brazilian. The country’s seven spots will be split between the Copa do Brasil champion (Grêmio or Palmeiras) and the top six in the Brasileirão (or seven, if the Copa do Brasil champion also finishes in the G-6). Also, if Palmeiras or Santos win the Libertadores and finish in the qualifying zone, one more place opens up via Brasileirão.
