The covid-19 pandemic has already killed 195,725 Brazilians and, with the increase in infections expected after the end of the year celebrations, the forecast is that Brazil will exceed 200,000 deaths in this first week of January. This Saturday (2/1), the balance in the Ministry of Health accounted for more than 314 deaths, closing the epidemiological week with an increase of 11% compared to the accumulated of the previous seven days.
According to the Covid-19 Brazil Portal, an initiative formed by researchers from the University of Brasilia (UnB) and the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil is expected to reach 200,000 deaths on January 7. The new infections also raise the moving average again. In the survey of the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass), Brazil confirms, on average, 35,800 infections and 704 deaths per day.
With three days a week registering daily updates on the thousand deaths, there was an increase in deaths in week 53. With 4,930 deaths, the increase was 11% compared to week 52. Regarding the cases, there was stabilization since the variation was less than 1%, from 252,651 new cases to 250,599.
With the exception of epidemiological week 52, which closed with a drop in the number of infections and deaths, since November Brazil has observed a new upward trend in the figures.

In Brazil, of the 27 federative units, 24 register figures above 1,000 deaths from the new coronavirus. São Paulo (46,808) and Rio de Janeiro (25,608) are the two states with more than 20 thousand deaths each. This Saturday, Ceará exceeded 10,000 deaths by registering the accumulated of 10,015 since the start of the pandemic. Minas Gerais also hit the target with 12,023 deaths.
Still accumulating more than a thousand deaths from covid-19 are: Pernambuco (9,674), Bahía (9,187), Ri Correio Braziliense or Grande do Sul (8,934), Pará (8,001), Paraná (7,209), Goiás (6,805), Amazonas ( 5,325), Santa Catarina (5,294), Espírito Santo (5,113), Maranhão (4,513), Mato Grosso (4,475), Federal District (4,268), Paraíba (3,692), Rio Grande do Norte (2,995), Piauí (2,848), Alagoas (2,502), Sergipe (2,500), Mato Grosso do Sul (2,360), Rondônia (1,825) and Tocantins (1,239).
Only three states report fewer than a thousand deaths from covid-19 each: Amapá (927), Acre (798) and Roraima (787).
