Goiânia councilors approved on Friday (1) the dismissal of Mayor Maguito Vilela (MDB) for the treatment of Covid-19 complications. The order was delivered after the inauguration, carried out virtually. With that, the deputy, Rogério Cruz (Republicans), temporarily assumes the municipal administration.

“It is a decision of the board of directors. As there is no need for a vote, the removal of Mayor Maguito Vilela is indefinite, thus assuming the mayor, now in office, Rogério Cruz, ”said the President of the City Council, Romário Policarpo (Patriota).

According to Dr. Marcelo Rabahi, who monitors the mayor’s recovery, Maguito is on the best day of his recovery. He continues with a tracheostomy, but has good breathing, is conscious, interacting, and receives light sedation only when lying down.

During his inauguration, Rogério Vilela reinforced his commitment to the mayor. “I already said and I repeat, I am a faithful soldier of Mayor Maguito and together we will fulfill our mission in exchange for the trust of our citizens so that we can make Goiânia a better place,” he said.

Hospitalization history

Maguito tested positive for coronavirus on October 20. Two days later, he was admitted to a hospital in Goiânia.

On October 27, he was diagnosed with lung inflammation of up to 75% and was transferred to São Paulo. On October 30, Maguito was intubated for the first time after his respiratory condition worsened. On November 8, he resumed breathing without the equipment.

The politician got worse and was intubated again on November 15, the day of the first electoral round. Two days later, the candidate began respiratory treatment with ECMO, a machine that mimics the functions of the lungs.

On December 3, after testing negative for Covid-19, Maguito was transferred to an ordinary hospital ICU bed. After two days, the ECMO was withdrawn.

On the 11th, the politician presented bleeding in the lungs and underwent surgery to control the condition. After the procedure, she had no further bleeding into her organs and returned to a stable condition, with reduced sedation.

In August of this year, Maguito lost two sisters to Covid-19 in less than 10 days. They were 82 and 76 years old and lived in Jataí, the politician’s hometown, located in the southwest of Goiás.
