President Jair Bolsonaro confirmed that the new value of the minimum wage of R $ 1,100 for 2021. The increase is 5.26% compared to the value of 2020, of R $ 1,045. According to the Government, to carry out the increase, the National Consumer Price Index (INPC) from January to November and the estimated variation of the financial market for the index in December 2020 were considered.

When he signed the measure, President Jair Bolsonaro declared the following:

“I will still sign a MP today that raises the minimum wage to R $ 1,100, effective as of January 1, 2021. It is an increase of 5.26% in relation to the current value (R $ 1,045). The amount of R $ 1,100 refers to the national minimum wage. The amount is applicable to all workers, in the public and private sectors, and also to pensions and pensions, ”the president announced on a social network.

Even so, the new value proposed by the president is higher than the one predicted by the government itself in the LDO project (Law of Budgetary Guidelines) sent and approved by Congress, of R $ 1,088, which takes into account the projection of the Ministry of Economy for the INPC (National Consumer Price Index) of 2020, 4.11%.

Presented on April 15, the initial proposal provided for the minimum wage of R $ 1,079 next year. However, with the increase in inflation, the government decided to increase the amount to R $ 1,088.

The new minimum wage 2021

According to the Ministry of Economy, on January 12, when the December INPC is published, the new minimum wage may be corrected to ensure the preservation of the purchasing power defined by the Constitution.

In early 2019, this is exactly what happened. On December 31, the minimum wage for 2020 was set at R $ 1,039. In January, when the INPC for December was published, the value rose R $ 6, thus moving to the minimum wage that lasted all of 2020: R $ 1,045.

In other words, nothing less than the third definition of the value of the minimum wage of 2021. On December 15, the Federal Government increased the estimate of the minimum wage from R $ 1,067 to R $ 1,088. The amount was a message of modification of the draft Law of Budgetary Guidelines (LDO).

At that time, the amount was R $ 21 more than the projection of R $ 1,067 contained in the proposal for the General Budget of the Union, sent to Congress at the end of August 2020.
