The state of São Paulo returns this Friday (1) to the strong restrictions of the red phase in all the federative units. During January 1, 2 and 3, only essential services will be able to operate.
The phase is the most rigid of the five-phase plan drawn up by the governor of João Dória (PSDB). The measure was also implemented between December 25 and 27, 2020.
Until this Sunday (3), face-to-face service is prohibited in shopping centers, stores, dealerships, offices, bars, restaurants, gyms, beauty salons and cultural events establishments.
All state parks are also closed. Pharmacies, markets, bakeries, gas stations, laundries and hotel services are free.

As of Monday (4), the state returns to the yellow phase, the third of the SP Plan. With the exception of the Presidente Prudente region, in which the 45 municipalities are extraordinarily in the red phase until the next reclassification.
The occupancy rate of the ICUs (Intensive Care Units) for Covid-19 in the Prudente region is 79.5%. Regarding nursing beds, the occupancy is 64%.
This Friday (31), the Government of São Paulo also extended the quarantine until February 7, 2021. According to the Official State Gazette, the measure aims to “contain the spread of Covid-19 and ensure its functioning health services “.
However, the decision is not surprising. Since March, Governor João Doria (PSDB) has continuously extended the quarantine, despite changes to the São Paulo Plan.
In December 2020, the number of cases increased by 68% and the number of deaths by 57% compared to November, according to data from the State Department of Health.
The state is the fifth region in the world with the most cases of the disease, according to data from Johns Hopkins University, and the first in Brazil. As of Friday morning (1), the state had 1,462,297 registered cases and 46,717 deaths from coronavirus.
