President Jair Bolsonaro (non-party) said on Thursday (12/31) that the Brazilian government could acquire the vaccine against the mRNA-1273 Covid-19 from Moderna.
On Wednesday (12/30), a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine indicated that the immunizer is 94.1% effective against the disease.
The index is observed even including serious diseases and “apart from transient and systemic local reactions, no safety problems have been identified.”
“Next to [vacina da] Pfizer, we have another one from Moderna, which can be purchased for Brazil. What’s missing? It remains to decide who is going to take and who is not going to receive the vaccine, ”said the president during the live broadcast on social networks.
Moderna’s vaccine is already being applied in the United States.
According to Bolsonaro, the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) and the Ministry of Health will define whether or not people who have been infected by the new coronavirus and have produced antibodies will receive the immunizer against Covid-19.
“In part, the groups are already defined [de vacinação]. It is necessary to agree with Anvisa and the Ministry of Health who has already been infected or not, to see if it can be taken or not because it produced antibodies. In my particular case, as I was already infected, I already have antibodies, I am not going to give the vaccine, “said the president.
