The minimum wage will be R $ 1,100 from January 1, 2021. With this change in value, most retirees will have adjustments in the amount of the benefit. According to the National Institute of Social Security (INSS), around 70% of the insured receive some type of social security benefit in the amount of a minimum wage.
In fact, the minimum wage sets the floor for INSS benefits. Therefore, retirees receiving a minimum wage should also see a 5.26% increase in 2021.
The readjustment of the minimum wage by the federal government is defined through cash analysis and also through inflation in the country. The value always begins to be valid at the beginning of the year through a Provisional Measure and needs the approval of the National Congress.
It also increases the value of benefits indexed to the minimum wage, such as the Continuous Fee Benefit (BPC).
Whoever earns more than one salary will have their benefit readjusted?
INSS policyholders who earn a benefit above the minimum wage, even for a few reais, have another rule to readjust the benefit.
For this type of situation, the adjustment is made through the National Consumer Price Index (INPC).
In 2020, the accumulated INPC rises 3.93%, which leads to a percentage very close to the 4.10% estimated by the government and which will serve as the basis for calculating the minimum wage adjustment.
The INSS ceiling is also adjusted according to the INPC index. If the index remains at 5.25%, the ceiling in 2021 will be R $ 6,351.
