Six people, including four children, died from landslides followed by burial caused by the rains in the municipality of Embu das Artes (SP). The last body found was that of a child. The incident occurred on Tuesday night (29) in two houses in the Jardim do Colégio community.

The fifth victim was located around 6 in the afternoon today (30). She was identified by the Fire Department as Zenaide Marcelino Gomes, 55. The rescue continued looking for his grandson, the boy Fernando Pierre Procópio dos Santos, found in the early afternoon.

During the night of yesterday and the early morning of today, the teams found the bodies of: Jaqueline Santos Gomes, 25, and the children Rian Vasconcelos Gomes, 8, Darlei Gomes, 7, Roberto Gomes, 5.

The two sons of Zenaide, who were at the doors of the houses, managed to run through the alleys and escaped without injuries.

“It was raining hard and I heard a crash, I ran out of the house and saw the mud falling,” said social worker Denilsa Moura, a resident of Zenaide. “I saw Doña Zenaide’s children return and I began to shout her name. But I did not hear a response,” he added.

The social worker said she was at home with her husband and 17-year-old daughter. “We took a shovel, a mallet and an extension of light and began to dig. We only stopped when the police and firefighters arrived,” said Denilsa, who is one of the 40 families who had to be taken from their homes by the landslide.
