Paulo Roberto Falcão is the name of Jorge Salgado to close the new football structure of Vasco. For now, there is no definition on whether the former coach of the Brazilian team and former midfielder will accept the invitation to occupy a position at the São Januário club.
+ With Bird’s approval, Vasco and Zé Ricardo negotiate a one-year contract
Vasco president-elect Salgado worked with Falcão on the national team in 1991 and, since then, the two have had a great relationship. The coach assumed the position of football director at CBF in 1989, replacing Eurico Miranda, and remained there until 1993.

Since the resignation of coach Ricardo Sá Pinto, a decision taken jointly by current president Alexandre Campello with Salgado, Vasco’s football department has undergone changes. André Mazzuco, CEO, was fired.
There is an agreement with Alexandre Bird, who is in the last days of his tenure as São Paulo soccer coach. And, as was said during the campaign, Salgado wants someone to act as CEO, a person in charge of the entire department: the professional, the base and the woman.
– For the leadership position, that of CEO, the professional must have an impeccable reputation. You must have a winning history in soccer, you must have qualities of knowledge of Brazilian and world soccer, probably someone who has had European experience, may be playing. That person must empathize with the media, who knows how to communicate. A person who can speak another language. I want someone of high level. Even to signal respect. This generates little motivation, it is a good reference. It is essential that things happen – Salgado said to give in October.
Falcão fits this profile and is seen by future directors of Vasco as a reference: the name was kept confidential and restricted to the leaders of Mais Vasco, the group that elected Salgado. So much so that, during the campaign, Salgado went to Porto Alegre to speak with him. No wonder Salgado thought of that role for Falcão. And, if there is no correct answer, it may not be removed from the paper.
Since 2016, when it was his third stint as coach of Internacional, a club for which he was a tri-Brazilian player in the 1970s, Falcão has not coached any club. He had years of prominence in the 80s in São Paulo and Rome, where he was champion of Italy. He also commanded Bahía and Sport. He was also a commentator for Rádio Gaúcha, TV Globo and Fox Sports.
