The heavy rains that hit São Paulo this afternoon left the entire capital of São Paulo in a state of attention due to floods, according to the CGE (Center for Climate Emergency Management) of the city government. All areas of the city, in addition to the marginal Tietê and Pinheiros, were on alert.
The sub-prefectures of Campo Limpo and Ipiranga, in the south, and Butantã, in the west, still issued a stream overflow alert. The first was Córrego Morro do S, in Av. Caldeira Filho; the second, Córrego Ipiranga, in Praça Leonor Kauppa with Av. Abraão de Morais; the third, the Pirajuçara stream, on Rua Moncorvo Filho.
In the center, on Marginal Tietê and in the north, west and east, the state of care was closed at 8:47 p.m. Overflow alerts in the Vila Prudente and Itaquera sub-prefectures, on the east side, were suspended around 6:45 pm.
There were no records of problems with the Metro. I’m already on it CPTM (Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos), the circulation of trains was interrupted for approximately half an hour between the stations Granja Julieta and Santo Amaro, in the Linha 9-Emerald, because of a flood. The situation has already normalized, according to the company.
The storm was caused by areas of instability from Guarulhos, formed by heat and humidity, and affects the eastern and northern areas of the São Paulo capital with greater intensity. There are conditions for thunder and gusts of wind, increasing the risk of flooding and falling trees, as well as landslides.
As of 7:07 p.m., the Fire Department had already received 28 calls for falling trees, 53 for flooding, and seven for landslides or landslides. In addition to the capital, cities such as Ribeirão Pires, Guarulhos and Taboão da Serra, all in the Metropolitan Region, also suffered from the rains.
In these circumstances, the CGE advises:
- Avoid driving on flooded streets;
- If the rain has caused flooding, do not venture into the stream;
- Stay in a safe place. If you need it, ask for help;
- Stay away from the power grid and don’t stop under trees. Shelter in houses and buildings;
- Plan your trips so that there is less chance of dealing with traffic jams caused by blocked streets.
In case of doubt about blocked roads, CET (Companhia de Engenharia de Trafic) offers the call center at number 156. It is also possible to check the traffic on the main roads on the agency’s website.
