Caixa Econômica Federal today deposits emergency aid for 3.2 million Brazilians. And with that, it ends the benefit payments that have helped sustain 68 million Brazilians in the covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, only those who have an open dispute process will still have the opportunity to receive the help from now on.
Created with the aim of supporting informal workers and the most vulnerable people during the pandemic, the emergency aid cost R $ 321.8 billion. For this reason, it ends at the end of the year despite several requests to maintain the benefit in early 2021 due to the worsening of the pandemic and high unemployment. According to Economy Minister Paulo Guedes, the extension would only occur if the second wave of the pandemic is confirmed, but the government has still treated the increase in covid-19 cases as a resurgence.
The program manager, the Ministry of Citizenship, reinforced yesterday that, for now, only the payments derived from administrative disputes, extrajudicial disputes and judicial decisions on the cancellation of benefit payments will be made in 2021. The deadline for Bolsa Família beneficiaries is challenging the cancellation of emergency aid through the Dataprev website, by the way, ends today. For the other recipients of the aid, the deadline ended on Saturday.
Dataprev is analyzing the latest challenge requests to determine who will still be able to receive the aid in 2021, but this number is expected to be residual, as the government has already accepted 1.4 million disputes in recent months. For this reason, many people have already prepared for life after aid and the government has been trying to improve Bolsa Família. This month, for example, the benefit began to be paid digitally through the Caixa Tem application. There is also the expectation that the number of families covered by Bolsa Família will increase from 13.2 million to 15.2 million in 2021.
The situation of informal workers who stop receiving aid, at the end of this year, will be addressed “there in front,” according to Guedes. Caixa, for example, intends to launch a microcredit program aimed at this public between February and March. The bank also warned that these workers will be able to continue using digital social savings, created in the pandemic, for free by the Caixa Tem application in 2021. “Caixa will maintain Digital Social Savings, considering the importance of the banking process for Brazil,” he reported .
