Santos and Ceará were tied, 1 to 1, tonight. In Vila Belmiro, the fish commanded by Cuca had a more offensive stance, went ahead with Marinho, but suffered a goal from Vozão in the first half and could not reverse the situation. The VAR also annulled a goal from Santos in the final part of the match. The result at Baixada Santista leaves the two teams in the middle of the Brazilian Championship leaderboard.
Filled with the good moment of the season, Santos started and managed to push Ceará to the defense field for almost the entire match. The São Paulo team hit the post and gave Fernando Prass a lot of work, but Vozão was also effective in the attack and will return to the Northeast with a point won in the suitcase.
The tie leaves Santos with 39 points earned, in eighth place. Ceará reaches 36 and remains in tenth position, within the classification zone for the Copa Sudamericana. Peixe’s next appointment this season is against Boca Juniors, on January 6, for the semifinal of the Copa Libertadores. Vozão enters the field a day later to face Internacional for the sequence of the Brazilian Championship.
Pituca dominates the midfield
The Santos midfielder ended the match as the positive highlight of the duel in Vila Belmiro. In charge of leaving the ball to Peixe, the midfielder gave fluidity to the offensive system of the local team and helped with the marking. Even with five men in that region of the court, Ceará was concerned about not giving Marinho and Soteldo space, which made Pituca’s job easier.
Isolated, Vina does not perform as expected
One of the highlights of Ceará this season, the offensive midfielder Viña did not present the good football of previous games. Isolated in attack and almost always without options, the Vozão player ended up trapped in Santos’ mark for most of the match.
‘Minimissil’ by Marinho
Living a great phase with the Santos shirt, forward Marinho did not take long to get the zero of the Vila Belmiro scoreboard. In Soteldo’s left sprint, the ball reached Pituca inside the area and the midfielder passed it to Marinho. The player hit dry, low, against Fernando Prass, without defense possibilities.
John works miracles, but not enough
After waiting for Santos in his defense field for most of the first half, Ceará managed to be more competitive in the final stretch of the first 45 minutes. In a quick attack on the right, Bruno Pacheco relied on defending the defense to find Cléber inside the area. The forward headed hard, but goalkeeper John reached out and made the save. On the rebound, Samuel Xavier was attentive to score the northeastern team’s goal.
Cuca takes a risk and Soteldo gets angry
The draw was not the result that pleased Santos the most in the game, so coach Cuca opted to take the wheel off Alison and overtake Arthur Gomes. In addition, the coach drew Soteldo and put Bruninho, thinking about the aerial game. The problem is that the skilled Venezuelan did not like to be replaced and left the field visibly disturbed, complaining and with his head down.
Fernando Prass’s star shines
With the substitutions from both sides, the game became more open and with real goal chances for Santos and Ceará. In a quick play from the right, the Vozão defense splashed the ball inside the area and Marinho appeared free, unmarked. The Peixe striker dominated and filled the foot, almost within the small area. Goalkeeper Fernando Prass lunged at the ball and deflected it towards the crossbar and then came out.
VAR action frustrates Santos players
Without Soteldo, but with two tall players in the area, Santos went on the attack in search of victory in Vila Belmiro. On a corner kick, Marinho hit a beautiful closed center, defeated goalkeeper Fernando Prass and found Arthur Gomes in the area. The attacker closed his eye and pushed to the back of the net, but the ball slipped off his arm. The VAR took action and annulled Peixe’s goal.
Game timeline
Marinho put Santos ahead in the match early in the second half. Peixe dominated the first half, but suffered a draw with Samuel Xavier taking advantage of a rebound inside the area. In the final stage, Ceará started better, balanced the match, but was soon pressured by the local team. In the end, Santos pushed Vozão into his defense field and created good chances for victory, but without success.
