The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro arrested another person accused of being involved in the death of the 20-year-old UFRJ pharmacy student, Marcus Winícius Tomé Coelho de Lima. Two others remain at large. According to the Baixada Fluminense Homicide Station, Denner Dias Barcia Alves is accused of being one of those responsible for the murder and possibly one of those involved in the kidnapping action that resulted in the death of the young man in October of that year.
Chief of Police Uriel Alcântara, head of DHBF, spoke with UOL and said that the man arrested today was one of the traffickers whose shipment was stolen by the gang, whose investigations showed that Marcus Winícius participated in a mock negotiation for the purchase of the drug.
“He is one of the traffickers who went to sign the sale and they stole his cargo. His participation as one of the main and possibly one of those involved in the kidnapping action that resulted in his death is being investigated. There were 3 dealers, Denner is one of them. We are not sure if it was one of the occupants of the white car, this is one of the suspicions. Three dealers were together and their cargo was stolen. Denner was together to sell 2 kg of skank valued at R $ 80,000, “Uriel explained.
The white car, mentioned by the deputy, is the vehicle in which Marcus Winícius was placed after leaving a shopping center with his electric bicycle on the night of the crime.
Today’s action was attended by agents from the Police for the Protection of Children and Adolescents (DPCA) and the Baixada Fluminense Homicide Police (DHBF). According to the Police, after intense intelligence and monitoring work, police officers from the Electronic Search Sector obtained the information that Denner, who was on the run, was in an apartment on Avenida Epitácio Pessoa, in Lagoa, in the South of Rio.
Upon arriving at the scene, the police were surprised by the suspect’s companion. He did not come out of the police entrance claiming that the house had pit bulls. After being able to enter the apartment, the police noticed that there was a room with the air conditioning duct with the device out of place, indicating that it had escaped through the hole and onto a ledge.
After about an hour, Denner Alves was found inside the elevator’s engine room, with a backpack containing nine marijuana tablets. Revolver ammunition, precision scales for weighing drugs and holsters for firearms were also found in the apartment. Both the man and his girlfriend were taken to the police station and in addition to complying with the arrest warrant, both will be responsible for the crimes of drug trafficking and possession of ammunition for permitted use.
The Civil Police launched a poster asking for information that would lead to two other suspects of being in the same car as Denner: Igor Moreira Dantas and Victor Hugo dos Santos Moraes. “These two are fugitives, there is still an investigation to identify other participants in the crime,” the delegate concluded.
Understand kidnapping and murder
On October 8 of this year, according to investigations by the Civil Police, Marcos Winícius was kidnapped by drug traffickers after leaving a shopping center in the South Zone. He reportedly left his family and went home to prepare an evening. But he did not appear at the event.
Later, security camera footage showed the occupants of a car and a van approaching Marcus Winícius at the entrance to Urca, the neighborhood where the student lived. The car hit his bike and knocked him to the ground. Shortly after, two occupants get out and load the victim into the car. The truck, which was covering the action, returned to the scene to pick up the boy’s bicycle. The owner of the truck was arrested and the vehicle impounded.
Five days later, on October 13, the boy’s body was found in Nova Iguaçu, in Baixada Fluminense, with four traces of gunshots.
“Boatmen”
The police are still investigating Marcus Winícius’ involvement with the gang known as “Boteiros”. According to investigations, the group hits drug traffickers and users in Rio de Janeiro and other states. In the capital, the gang already had notoriety among upper-middle-class drug traffickers and drug users, in neighborhoods of the South Zone such as Botafogo, Urca, Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon.
With the help of the military police, the group simulated the purchase of a large drug shipment and stole the cargo at the time of the encounter. They also acted the other way around: they sold a shipment of drugs that did not even exist and stole the buyer’s money upon delivery, pretending to be blatant by the military police involved.
The Civil Police are investigating whether three friends of Marcus Winícius have stolen a shipment of drugs. According to the investigations, the student did not participate effectively in this robbery, but was in a hotel where those involved came to celebrate.
The report attempts to contact the defense of Denner Dias Barcia Alves. As soon as it is located, the report will be updated.
