The vaccination campaign against covid-19 will begin on Tuesday in Argentina, where the new coronavirus caused 42,501 deaths and almost 1.6 million cases, the state agency Télam reported on Saturday (26).
The government will begin to inoculate the 300,000 doses that arrived in the country from Sputnik V, from the Russian laboratory Gamaleya, one of the two vaccines approved along with the one developed by the US laboratory Pfizer.
“The idea is that when autumn arrives we will have vaccinated the largest number of people at risk,” said President Alberto Fernández, according to official information.
The decision to start immunization on Tuesday was agreed during a meeting by videoconference between Fernández and the provincial governors.
The details of the strategic plan for the application of the vaccine will be announced in the next few hours, according to official sources cited by the local press.
Argentina has also signed vaccine supply agreements with the University of Oxford, associated with the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, and the Covax mechanism of the World Health Organization (WHO), while negotiating the shipment of the drug produced by Pfizer.
Mandatory social detachment has been adopted in the country since November 9, when the isolation that had been in force since March 20 was suspended.
