Mayor Bruno Covas (PSDB) sanctioned on Thursday (24) an increase of 46.6%, on average, in the salaries of the mayor, the deputy and the secretaries of the São Paulo capital. The text was published in the Official Gazette.
Written by the Executive, the project was approved in a second vote at the São Paulo City Council on Wednesday afternoon (23). There were 34 votes in favor, 17 against and 1 abstention.
The first approval had been made at 12 noon on Monday (21). The readjustment is valid from 2022 and, with it, the ceiling of the municipal public function rises.

The current salary of the mayor, which is R $ 24,175, will increase to approximately R $ 35,462 – with a variation of 46.6%. The vice mayor’s salary, on the other hand, will change by 47% and the increase in secretaries will reach almost 53%.
The approval received harsh criticism from some parliamentarians, for having occurred in the week of Christmas and after a year of cost containment due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a note, the City Council reported that the bill deals with the correction of subsidies “for the mayor, deputy mayor and secretaries at levels lower than the accumulated inflation in the period” of the last 8 years.
“Since the last correction, in 2012, accumulated inflation reaches 63.11% for the IPCA and 100.41% for the IGP. It is important to note that the correction will only be valid from January 2022,” said the Legislative Chamber in note.
