Upon landing in Flamengo, Rogério Ceni ended up betting on more experienced players and athletes from the base, who had been gaining opportunities with Domènec Torrent and pleasing the fans, lost space. In the last two games, against Santos and Bahía, he has won opportunities, but it will not surprise anyone that he returns to the bench soon, especially against direct rivals in the fight for the top of the table in Brasileirão Serie A.
Ceni always made it clear that she needed to know more about the boys on a daily basis. In the case of Ramón, another player who is very popular with the red and black fans, the coach believes that he needs to evolve and that he is not yet capable of perfectly executing certain orders.
The same goes for Gabriel Noga, who has even greater competition, as Rodrigo Caio is the undisputed starter and Ceni sees Gustavo Henrique doing the defender good on the right side.
And speaking of the right-back, Matheusinho is another name that still does not inspire so much confidence in Rogério Ceni to the point that, in the decisive match against Racing, the coach preferred to improvise Renê to put the young side. Little by little, Matheusinho has been observing himself more and tries to win the commander’s trust.
On the other hand, João Gomes has been gaining even more morale. He was a substitute for Willian Arão in the last two games and, although Rogério Ceni was considered a second midfielder, he did well up front and won points with the captain. Gomes had the patience to listen carefully to all of the coach’s instructions during the past week.
Another trait of João Gomes that drew attention was his personality. The boy was not intimidated at any time and is very well connected with his elders.
Pepê is also gratifying: the midfielder has renewed the contract for another six months with Flamengo at the request of Rogério Ceni. Without being able to register new players until the end of the Brasileirão, it is a “reinforcement” requested by the coach.
In goal, Hugo Souza emerges for Ceni as the future of Flamengo; At the moment, the starting position is Diego Alves and it will hardly be possible until the end of this season. Shirt 1 is the coach’s henchman, the undisputed owner of the position.
In attack, with many options, Rodrigo Muniz’s situation gets a little more complicated. The boy, who returned on loan at the request of the coach, should be used more in 2021, in the Carioca Championship.
There are other names that Ceni is not very familiar with yet, such as Daniel Cabral, Guilherme Bala, Otávio, Richard Rios among others that should only really be on the coach’s radar when planning the 2021 season.
