The lack of data to demonstrate the efficacy of Coronovac, COVID-19 vaccine, has caused concern among scientists and healthcare professionals across the country. THE absence of figures that demonstrate the effectiveness of the immunizer, during a press conference held by the Butantan Institute this Wednesday (12/23), did not convince the researchers.

Further, successive postponements of the presentation that, initially, it was programmed for the 15th, happened to the 23rd and, now, within two weeks, the suspicion of the scientific community has increased even more.

In an interview with the Exame magazine website, Maria Amlia Veras, an epidemiologist at the Santa Casa de So Paulo School of Medicine and the COVID-19 BR Observatory, spoke on the subject. “OR problem that lack of an explanation more coherent on why so many postponements are starting to make scientists suspect that there may be a problem with the vaccine, “he said.
At Wednesday’s press conference, although he did not present figures, the Butantan Institute, reported that the Coronavac has achieved the required efficiency by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) and by the World Health Organization (WHO) for emergency use.
The president of Butantan, Dimas Covas, explained that the study data was sent to Sinovac for final analysis and presentation by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), the Chinese institution responsible for drug regulation. Starting today, Sinovac has up to 15 days to complete this analysis of the numbers.

Fernando Reinach, biologist, doctor in cellular and molecular biology from Cornell University and author of the book “The arrival of the new Coronavrus in Brazil”, another specialist heard by Exame, refuted the possibility of a divergent evidence problem with other countries from where the immunizer is coming. being simultaneously tested by the laboratory. “Most of the tests were done in Brazil,” he said.
