BRASÍLIA – The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ), must announce this Wednesday that the candidate chosen by his bloc to run for the presidency of the Chamber next year is Baleia Rossi (MDB-SP).
The bloc unites eleven parties from the center and left: DEM, MDB, PSDB, PSL, Citizenship, PV, PT, PSB, PDT, Rede and PCdoB. Aguinaldo Ribeiro (PP-PB) was also considered a potential candidate for Maia, but was not chosen by the leaders.

Baleia Rossi is president of the MDB. In a meeting earlier this Wednesday, the PT deputies expressed their opposition to the Baleia election due to the role of the MDB in the removal of President Dilma Rousseff in 2016.
He is in his second term as a federal deputy. Before that, he served three terms as a state deputy in São Paulo.

The deputy is the son of the former deputy and former minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Wagner Rossi. In the last two years he has acted as the author of one of the tax reform proposals that are being processed in the Chamber.
In October 2019, he assumed the presidency of the BMD preaching the banner of the renewal of the party. He is also the leader of the BMD in the Chamber.

In recent weeks, Baleia Rossi has received requests from MDB senators, such as Renan Calheiros (MDB-AL), to withdraw from the candidacy. They advocated giving up the House candidacy to strengthen a BMD name in the Senate. The BMD president, however, chose to treat the two disputes separately.
