Even with the number of cases and deaths from covid-19 growing in the state of São Paulo, the airports and the bus station in the São Paulo capital register queues and crowds of people who huddle to spend their holidays in another city.
OR Twitter Today he was at the Guarulhos international airport, at the Congonhas airport, in the south of the capital, and at the Tietê bus terminal, in the north of São Paulo.
In all the localities, the agglomerations were concentrated in the boarding and disembarking sectors, ticket offices and, mainly – in the case of airports – in the flight check-in boxes.
As the use of a protective mask is mandatory in enclosed spaces, the vast majority of passengers wore the equipment, but it was easy to find dozens of people wearing the mask incorrectly, with their noses out.
It was also not difficult to find people who would remove their masks to speak and write on their cell phones or even wait seated for their flights or buses.
Even with the risk of contamination, Rosileine Silva, 45, from São Paulo, goes to Teresina, the capital of Piauí, to spend Christmas and New Year’s Eve with her family. She said she felt safe because she was already infected.
“But everyone is protected. Mask, ice cream all the time. I already had the virus, thank God I was not angry, only mild symptoms,” he said.
Almost no passengers respected the distance of 1.5 meters on the check-in lines at Guarulhos and Congonhas airports. Even in line to perform a covid-19 RT-PCR test, at the international departure terminal, there was a crowd.
Yesterday, images of crowds at Guarulhos airport went viral on social networks, precisely in the check in.
The report did not find that any airline or airport official asked passengers to distance themselves or wear a mask correctly.
In the queue to do a covid-19 test and be able to board for Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, the business couple Dalva Ângela, 57, and Márcio Cláudio, 77, reported that the airport was not so full and that all they were protecting themselves with a mask. “I just take off the mask sometimes, to breathe,” Márcio said.
“I already had the virus, he also had it. They both had it in August and everything was fine. Everything is very quiet here. People taking care. We will do the test because we have to present it before leaving São Paulo,” Dalva said.
Even today, the executive coordinator of the Covid-19 Contingency Center in São Paulo, João Gabbardo, criticized the overcrowding inside the Guarulhos airport.
“It is an indescribable scene. There is no way we can explain that the airport administration let what happened yesterday. It is unacceptable that the airlines, which were the most affected, are not planning and taking care of the people we are going to check in.” , said.
Another very common scene both in the airports and in the Tietê bus station were the passengers who bought food and consumed it walking around the place, without a mask.
With a coffee in hand, a man was walking unprotected through the airport when he sat next to the report in the Guarulhos departure lounge. On the phone, he told another person how busy the airport was. “Dude, it’s crowded here. You have no idea. There are even people with helmets,” he joked, referring to the reporter, who was wearing a mask and acrylic protection (mask).
At the Tietê Terminal, the crowds are activated immediately upon entering the terminal. This is because the outside ramp, which is open and with good air circulation, was closed, without any sign indicating the reason for the closure.
With suitcases in hand, people had to crowd the elevators to get to the terminal. Few used the stairs, which had the windows closed, with no air circulation.
A passenger at the terminal, who declined to be identified, said that “even though it is full,” the terminal is still “empty for this time of year.” He was waiting for a bus, together with his elderly mother, to spend the New Year’s Eve parties in Campinas, in the interior of São Paulo.
“Who receives it [a covid-19] will get. When there is a vaccine, then yes, we will control it. For now, we know that the mask does not protect as much. And the government asks not to crowd together, not to gather people, but to leave us all inside the closed bus to work. It’s difficult, ”he said.
Guarulhos airport indicated that it follows all the recommendations issued by Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) and that it acts to contain the transmission of infectious diseases between employees and passengers through health protocols.
The airport also said that “as much as all the protocols are followed, the awareness of passengers to respect the rules and regulations is essential” to combat covid-19.
Wanted, representatives of the Congonhas airport and the Tietê bus terminal have not yet spoken.
