Councilor Francisco Samuel Lima Silveira (PSDB), 37, reacted last night to an armed robbery in Teresina. Even when shot, he managed to hit the bandit, who ended up dying meters after the location of the approach. The councilor is also a policeman and was leaving his children at his ex-wife’s house when the attempted robbery was attempted. He was operated on in a private hospital and is not at risk of dying.
Silveira had just arrived in front of the ex-wife’s house, located on Miguel Sady Avenue, in the São Cristóvão neighborhood, when he was approached by an armed robber, who arrived on a motorcycle. There was no movement in the street. His ex-wife heard the sound of gunfire, ran to the sidewalk, and saw Silveira shoot. She who helped him in the councilman’s car. Camera footage from a house on the same street recorded the action, which lasted about a minute. According to the footage, the councilman’s car had just come to a stop when a motorcycle parked behind the vehicle. The driver gets off the motorcycle and approaches the councilor. The man corners the councilor against the car, who closes the back door to protect his children. The cameras then film the man running and shooting, at Silveira, while the councilor also shoots.
The cameras did not film when Silveira was shot, since the place where he was with the assailant was in front of the cameras. He was shot in the abdomen and rescued in his own car, which his ex-wife was driving.
Today, the councilman’s press office reported that he remains in the ICU bed of the São Paulo hospital, recovering from an operation to rebuild the areas affected by the shooting. The projectile struck part of the small intestine and ureter. “He is stable, he is accompanied by his family. Samuel will remain under observation in the ICU, a standard procedure in the postoperative period,” says the note.
According to the Police, after stopping the motorcycle, the man announced the assault when the councilman opened the rear door of the vehicle to remove the children. Close the back door to protect children. Silveira was shot, but still managed to shoot the attacker several times, who ran, but fell and died 100 meters from the scene, on a sidewalk of a neighboring house.
“Suspect took Samuel’s cell phone [Silveira], and then they got into a physical fight and there was an exchange of shots. The aggressor died a few meters from the place, ”said Police Chief Júlio Castro, of the Civil Police (Coordination of Special Resources), who was at the scene conducting the first examinations of the case.
The deputy said that the assailant fired two shots at Silveira, and that the councilor did not fire all the shots from the pistol, as there was still ammunition in the weapon. He did not say the amount.
The Military Police and Core teams were in place to initiate the first surveys of what happened. The motorcycle and the weapon used by the man, whose name has not been released, were seized. The Police identified the owner of the motorcycle, who was summoned to explain the loan of the vehicle to the criminal.
