– I was happy, I needed the victory in that category. I came to win. I trained a lot in MMA (…). I got a chance to put it down, grabbed my back, and once I get there it’s hard to get out. About the next opponent, it would be a great fight against TJ Dillashaw. He talks a lot, comes out of suspension. Dana, you can mark that we will be ready – shot the athlete from Nova União, who struck up a friendly conversation with Vera, still in the octagon.

This was José Aldo’s 29th victory since he began his professional MMA career in 2004. Marlon Vera, in turn, closed 2020 with two setbacks and one victory, defeating Sean O’Malley.
José Aldo began to move, studying Marlon Vera and risking striking. The Ecuadorian -to control the fight- looked for the fall and pressed the manauara against the grid. At that moment, Dedé Pederneiras, coach of the athlete Nova União, asked the student to slap his rival. The athlete obeyed.

When the fight returned to the center of the octagon, José Aldo aimed at the waist of Marlon Vera, hit by hooks. Under the screams of Pederneiras, José Aldo released the low kicks – one of his marks inside the cage – and made the opponent feel his power. It was a round marked by aggression from the former featherweight champion.
During the break, Pederneiras turned on Jopé Aldo when he shot: “Shit’s over! Turn off that freak. He has no game for you.” And the manauara crossed the right overhead in the first movements. Alky, José Aldo hit Marlon Vera’s waist and face, showing speed and physical vigor. Two minutes from the end, Marlon Vera looked for the clinch, tried the takedown, well defended by the Canarian athlete. José Aldo took his foot off the accelerator, Marlon Vera crashed again. End of the second round.

In the final round, Marlon Vera went after José Aldo quickly. The Brazilian dominated the rival’s back, placed both hooks and attacked the naked strangler in the rear. Vera managed to get up, however, with the former champion dangling from her back. The Ecuadorian immobilized José Aldo to the ground, but he remained stapled. Vera kicked, tried to get rid of him, but it was canceled during the five minutes.
