The death of the girl María Clara Calixto Nascimento, 5, shocked the region on Friday (18) and caused riots in Hortolândia. The boy was raped and murdered by his stepfather, Cássio Martins Camilo, 27, who confessed to the crime and was arrested. The man had already been raped.
The child had disappeared on Thursday morning (17). Since then, relatives have searched the Vila Real neighborhood, where the girl lived with her mother, production manager Franciele Kauane Viana Nascimento, 25, and her stepfather.
The man was already considered a suspect and was heard at the police station on Thursday (17), but was eventually released and taken to the home of a relative in Monte Mor. He denied participation in the then-disappeared boy.
Relatives and friends were searching the neighborhood on Friday morning when an uncle of the girl located the body in a vacant lot on Rua Irmã Nazária Rita de Fillipi, in the São Felipe neighborhood, near the family home.
The child was in a cardboard box, covered with plastic. In an act of desperation, Franciele took her daughter’s body on her lap and took it to the UPA (Emergency Care Unit) Nova Hortolândia, but the girl was already dead.
After the body was found, agents of the Civil Police intercepted the stepfather who was trying to escape from Monte Mor to Campinas. He was arrested when he got out of a transport vehicle at his request already in the city of Campinas.
According to the chief delegate of Hortolândia, João Jorge Ferreira da Silva, the man confessed that he raped and killed the girl. “We are only taking steps to verify how the child was taken,” he said.
The body was taken to the IML (Medical Legal Institute) to determine the exact cause of death and whether the child was alive during the rape. Still according to the delegate, the suspicion is that the girl was killed by suffocation.
“The psychosis of an individual, you cannot try to imagine why. He is an unbalanced, disqualified individual for whom life has no value. […] The psychotic element does not regret it, ”João Jorge said when asked if the man repented.

According to the delegate, the crime must have occurred after 5 am on Thursday. The boy’s mother left the house to work and the man stayed on the property with the girl.
The woman was at the police station this Friday afternoon to give testimony. She was not considered a suspect, but the Civil Police wanted to determine the circumstances that led to the crime.
“This individual, who is a drug user, would have returned to his residence around 5 am. […] In particular, you would not leave a child in the hands of a drug user. He arrived at the residence at five in the morning because he spent the whole night using crack ”, said João Jorge.
The Civil Police expert returned to the property on Friday for a new inspection. One fact that drew attention was the fact that the man washed the entire house on Thursday morning. Neighbors heard by LIBERAL witnessed the event.
In addition to the house, the agents also attacked the land where the boy was found and another area of bushes on the same street.
“The skill was to do the survey to see if there was any evidence in the other field as well. The house yesterday, when my investigators entered, had been completely washed, but that does not prevent the expert from finding more evidence, ”said João Jorge.
Stepfather is accused of rape against another stepdaughter
The confessed murderer of the girl María Clara, Cássio Martins Camilo, 27, is accused of raping another stepdaughter in 2018 in the city of Monte Mor. At that time, the girl was 9 years old and the daughter of a former girlfriend.
The violation was cited by the chief delegate of Hortolândia, João Jorge Ferreira da Silva, and also by the sectional delegate of Americana, Martha Rocha, who went to the city to follow the work of the police.
According to María Clara’s relatives, the family did not know that Cassio had been raped.

At the time of the abuse, the girl was 9 years old and she told her father about the rape through WhatsApp messages. The case occurred in August 2018.
“My daughter sent a message saying that he abused her. When I went after him, I couldn’t find him. BO was made, but we didn’t find it at all. […] A guy who does this with a child doesn’t even deserve to live, ”the man said.
