The Ministry of Health confirmed yesterday (18) the second case of reinfection by the new coronavirus in Brazil. The case is of a 41-year-old patient, resident in the city of Fernandópolis, in the State of São Paulo. La Pasta was notified of what happened on Thursday (17) by the Adolfo Lutz Institute (IAL). A day earlier, São Paulo had confirmed the first case in the state.
The woman had the first result of the disease in June, but was cured. However, 145 days later a new positive result was confirmed.
According to the Ministry of Health, the two confirmed cases of covid-19 reinfection were investigated according to the “established criteria” for the confirmation of the disease, which consider two positive results of real-time RT-PCR for the SARS virus- CoV. -2, with an interval equal to or greater than 90 days between the two infection episodes.
The first case of reinfection by coronavirus was confirmed last week by the Ministry of Health. This is a 37-year-old doctor from Natal, in Rio Grande do Norte, who had two positive diagnoses for covid-19 in an interval of almost four. months.
In addition to the Adolfo Lutz Institute, in São Paulo, the Ministry has two more reference laboratories for respiratory viruses in Brazil: the Evandro Chagas Institute, in Pará, and Fiocruz, in Rio de Janeiro.
The folder advises that the kits reinforce the need to adopt continuous use of masks, constant hand hygiene and the use of alcohol gel. “The federal government is looking for a reliable, safe vaccine approved by Anvisa as soon as possible, so that all Brazilians who wish it can be immunized,” says the note.
