The Minister of Health, Eduardo Pazuello, said today that he will be vaccinated against covid-19 when the time comes for his age group. The 57-year-old general’s speech is in line with what President Jair Bolsonaro said yesterday (without a party). Pazuello also said that he saw “natural” the decision of the Supreme Court (Federal Supreme Court) to determine the mandatory vaccine in Brazil.
Yesterday, Bolsonaro said that he would not take an immunizer against covid-19 because he already contracted the disease. The president argued that he already has antibodies against the disease and therefore would be immune, but several studies have shown that immune protection decreases significantly over time and two cases of reinfection have already been confirmed in the country. In total, the Ministry of Health confirms 58 suspected cases of reinfection.
In an interview with SBT, Pazuello said that he will take the vaccine “as long as it is registered by Anvisa. [Agência Nacional de Vigilância Sanitária] and guaranteed effectiveness. “The minister also reinforced the importance of vaccination to stop the pandemic, which has intensified in Brazil in the last month.
“The vaccine is a fundamental part of pollution control, that’s why we work on it, in that direction, all the time,” said the head of Health.
Pazuello also minimized the possibility of the population avoiding vaccination for fear of side effects. For the minister, people will be able to previously analyze the risks, as they do with drugs.
“In the same way that each doctor prescribes a drug for that patient, people can also look at the different brands and different technologies that are there for what is less shocking, it can have fewer side effects for this or that person,” commented the Minister .
Mandatory “natural”
The decision to guarantee the mandatory vaccination by the STF was seen naturally by the head of the federal portfolio. Pazuello recalled that no one can be vaccinated by force, and it is up to the authorities to define possible sanctions for those who do not want to be vaccinated, and anticipated that the government will still define what these restrictions will be.
“It is up to us from the Ministry, in principle we are going to state what those restrictions are. For example, not going to a certain country, to a certain event, are the clauses that already pass naturally. The country sometimes requires some type of vaccine ”, said the minister.
