One person died this afternoon in Córrego do Feijão, which is located in the municipality of Brumadinho, in Minas Gerais. According to the Fire Department, the region of occurrence is in the operation of the Vale company, but the victim is an employee of a subcontracted company.
According to the corporation, the material that passed over the excavator is mainly made up of earth stones and iron ore. The weight broke the structure of the cabin where the operator was located and invaded the place, causing the death of the worker.
The accident occurred in an area used for material disposal and not at the site of the search for victims of the Brumadinho dam rupture, which took place in January 2019. The employee who was buried is an operator who works at the mine Córrego do Feijão and his identity has not yet been identified.
The Fire Department deployed five vehicles to assist in the rescue, and the area was cut off after Vale employees attempted to assist in the search for the victim. According to the latest information, firefighters had already gained partial access to the excavator structure and were awaiting the arrival of a new vehicle to assist in the removal of soil on the structure.
The searches for victims in Brumadinho continue
The CBMMG (Minas Gerais Fire Department) resumed searches in August for 11 victims of the failure of the Vale dam in the city of Brumadinho, which occurred on January 25, 2019.
Of the 270 victims, 259 bodies have already been recovered. Searches were frozen for a few months due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The work of the fire brigade was resumed following all safety protocols.
