These four parties had already announced on Thursday (17) a veto of any candidate supported by President Jair Bolsonaro.
With this Friday’s announcement, the block will consist of 11 subtitles: PT, PSL, MDB, PSB, PSDB, DEM, PDT, Citizenship, PV, PCdoB and Rede. The announcement was made in the Chamber by Rodrigo Maia and leaders of these parties.
Rodrigo Maia has not yet announced who will support, but the names cited are those of deputies Aguinaldo Ribeiro (PP-PB) and Baleia Rossi (MDB-SP).
“This group that presents itself today has many differences, yes. Because, unlike those who cannot bear to live within the framework of laws and institutions and who do not support the contradictory, we are strengthened in divergences, in respect, in civility and in the democratic game rules, “said Maia.
“This is not a choice between candidate A or candidate B. This is the choice between being free or servile, being faithful to democracy or being an ally of authoritarianism, being a partner in science or being an accomplice of denial; be faithful to the facts or be a devotee of fake news ”, declared the mayor.
The mayoral election will be in February next year. So far, two deputies have already announced their candidacy: Arthur Lira (PP-AL) and Luciano Bivar (PSL-PE).
Bivar participated in the announcement of the parties this Friday, and Lira is one of the main articulators of “Centrão” and has the support of President Jair Bolsonaro.
Opposition parties announce veto of Bolsonaro’s candidate in the House dispute
The national president of the PT, MP Gleisi Hoffmann (PR), said that the PT made the decision to join the bloc, but will suggest a name to be the bloc’s candidate.
“We have a lot of respect. Aguinaldo, Baleia Rossi, but the opposition is going to build a name to present the bloc as an alternative,” he said.
The parties had already indicated that they could support a name chosen by Maia, but the PT needed to define its position.

The projection that the Chamber of Deputies has won in the last two years is undeniable. And it is urgent to understand why this is so. Certainly, there are several reasons, but we think there is a main reason.
We gain relevance because we become the bulwark of democracy in Brazil; the territory of freedom; example of respect and empathy with millions of Brazilian citizens.
Because, while some seek to erode and struggle to close our institutions, here we struggle to value them. While some cultivate the clumsy dream of authoritarianism, we do the vigil of freedom. While some are in the dark, we celebrate the light.
This group that is presented today has many differences, yes. Because, unlike those who cannot bear to live within the framework of laws and institutions and who do not support the contradictory, differences, respect, civility and the rules of the democratic game strengthen us.
To keep the flame of democracy burning, the Chamber must be free, independent and autonomous, guaranteeing our greater harmony with society and with the Brazilian people.
This is not a choice between candidate A or candidate B. This is the choice between being free or servile; be faithful to democracy or ally of authoritarianism; being a partner in science or colluding with denialism; be true to the facts or be a devotee of fake news.
That’s why we unite today!
Difference, respect for institutions and freedom strengthens us. The Chamber will choose if it participates in a project of power that disparages the institutions and that, on numerous occasions, suggested the closure of this Chamber, or if it will be free to defend and deepen our democracy, preserving our commitment to the development of the country.
Certainly, Ulysses Guimarães would be on this side here and perhaps he will repeat it loud and clear: I hate and disgust dictatorships.
We are the Union of democracy and freedom!
