A hole about two meters deep opened in the sidewalk of an avenue in Uberlândia and “swallowed” a young woman who was waiting to cross the street. Security camera footage shows the moment of the fall (look up).

The incident occurred around 6:50 am on Wednesday (16), on Getúlio Vargas Avenue, and the 19-year-old pedestrian was rescued with minor injuries. The site was closed by the Municipal Directorate of Water and Sanitation (Dmae), which took a position on the issue.

In the video you can see that the young woman crosses the avenue with her mother. When going up to the sidewalk to wait for the vehicles, the floor, which was apparently normal, opens and the girl falls into the hole.

The Fire Department was called and the pedestrian, who was conscious, was rescued. He had several abrasions, but no serious injuries.

After being transferred to the Integrated Care Unit (UAI), the girl was discharged and informed to the G1 that he went to a private hospital for back pain.

Getúlio Vargas Avenue is one of the most important and busiest routes in Uberlândia. Built on a stream, it is a frequent site of flooding during the rainy season. The last one was on December 8.

After the accident, the place was closed and the Municipal Directorate of Water and Sewerage (Dmae) mobilized a team to verify what happened.

Also, although the hole is small on the surface, it is possible to visualize a larger space on the inside, as determined by MG1.

Kleyton Silas, Dmae’s drainage manager, went to the site and discussed the possible causes of the accident with the report.

According to him, there is a water and sewer gallery near the site, which may have suffered a crack. He also said that there was a tree that was recently removed and that its roots may have compromised the foundation of the sidewalk.

With the site prevented and the equipment mobilized, an investigation will be carried out to identify the cause and extent of the damage and, subsequently, repair it.
