Hundreds of people dressed in green, blue and yellow came, many without masks, to participate in the inauguration of the Clock Tower of the Companhia de Entrepostos y Armazéns Gerais de São Paulo (Ceagesp), in Vila Leopoldina, Zona Oeste de São Paulo , with President Jair Bolsonaro (no party).
The president stated that he will not allow “rats to scrap” and “privatize” the warehouse, in reference to a state government project that tries to transfer the administration of Ceagesp to private companies. (read below).
Last week, the president of Ceagesp, colonel of the reserve of the prime minister of São Paulo Ricardo Mello Araújo, sent an invitation to the permits, employees, politicians and authorities of São Paulo to use the colors of the Brazilian flag during the visit of the President to the warehouse this Tuesday. , which was attended by the public.
“On this day, wear a T-shirt with the colors of the National Flag: green, yellow, blue or white,” says Araújo’s message. In a note, Ceagesp stated at the time that the intention of the invitation was to “represent the strength” of the entity.
Outside Ceagesp, a group of protesters who opposed Bolsonaro called for a “vaccine now.” One of the protesters at the warehouse entrance passed the president’s supporters shouting “cattle” and was harassed. He was dismissed by the police.
Ceagesp is the largest fruit and vegetable supply center in Latin America and is managed by a federal public company linked to the Ministry of the Economy. However, the state government wants the warehouse to be run by private companies at another address.

The warehouse occupies an area of 60 thousand square meters in Vila Leopoldina, a region that has experienced high real estate appreciation in recent years. The region also suffers from floods and is the subject of complaints from residents of the buildings, who are upset by the heavy truck traffic in the area.
In 2019, the governor of São Paulo, João Doria (PSDB), and the then secretary of privatizations of the Bolsonaro government, Salim Mattar, signed an agreement to close Ceagesp and move the warehouse to another address, which would be built and managed by companies private on land on the banks of the Circunvalación Mário Covas.
Doria’s promise is to deliver the new Ceagesp headquarters by 2024. The São Paulo state government says it is in negotiations to make Ceagesp’s new change project feasible, in line with the federal government.
During the inauguration, Bolsonaro, without a mask and with a child in uniform, said that he is “deratifying Brazil” and will not allow Ceagesp to be privatized. “Here was a nest of rats. Here we have to start with police work. Because there are a lot of thugs here,” he said.
“Ceagesp here is a change, it is a new paradigm and here, when it comes to privatization, I want to make it very clear. As long as I am the President of the Republic, this is his house. Here no rat is going to discard it to privatize it for their friends, there is no place for that here. I make it very clear, “he added.

The former commander of Prime Minister Tobias de Aguiar (Rota )’s Ostensive Rounds, Ricardo Mello Araújo, 49, was appointed by Bolsonaro to the post at Ceagesp in October. The appointment came amid discussions about transferring the warehouse to another address.
On social media, Bolsonaro asked, at the time, the support of the truckers and permit holders to the new warehouse manager.
The colonel retired in 2019. In a video aimed at company employees, Mello Araújo recalled his career in the Military Police and said that he will “fight crime” also in Ceagesp.
“We are going to fight with force against corruption. I do not accept and I do not keep silent. As I said: I will go after it. Ceagesp will win. It will profit. It will be at the height it deserves, which the ancestors built throughout the years, “he said when he was sworn in.
