The Civil Police of Rio Grande do Norte yesterday located a fugitive wanted by Interpol and the Justice of Mato Grosso do Sul. José Moreira Freires, known as “Zezinho”, was the target of an operation in the rural area of Lagoa de Pedra. Police said he reacted, was shot and died on the spot.
He was ranked 12th on the list of the 26 most wanted criminals by the police, released by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security.
The dead man is accused of five murders, in addition to participation in drug trafficking, gambling, money laundering and corruption. There were two open arrest warrants against him.
According to the police, Zezinho was in possession of a pistol belonging to the Civil Police of Rio Grande do Norte, with a history of robbery. At the place where he was hiding, the suspect also created a crack production laboratory.
Investigations showed that José Moreira had arrived in Lagoa de Pedra two months ago.
In Rio Grande do Norte, “Zezinho” was reportedly hired to assassinate an official of the Public Ministry or the Court of Justice of Rio Grande do Norte. Investigations are then conducted to identify other possible individuals involved in the plan.

Zezinho is suspected of committing five homicide crimes, in addition to being involved in drug trafficking, gambling, money laundering and corruption.
According to investigations, one of the crimes is the death of a deputy – signed in front of the victim’s daughter. He also allegedly killed a student, the son of a military policeman; and a prime minister who served in the Legislative Assembly of Mato Grosso do Sul.
In addition to having a history of homicide, he had threatened two delegates of the Mato Grosso do Sul Civil Police.
