Judge Renato Sartorelli, of the São Paulo Court of Justice (TJ-SP), granted, on Monday the 14th, an order of temporary suspension of part of a decree of the São Paulo government that prohibited restaurants from selling alcoholic beverages after 20 hours. The decree published by the governor’s leadership João Doria (PSDB) on Saturday 12, determined that restaurants could only operate until 10 pm, with the prohibition of the sale of alcoholic beverages after 8 pm. The operation of bars was limited until 8 at night. The hours of stores and shopping centers have been extended from 10 am to 12 pm every day, closing until 10 pm
In the order, the magistrate accepted the argument that there would be no scientific studies that demonstrate a cause and effect relationship between the consumption of alcoholic beverages and the contagion by covid-19.
To substantiate the decision, Sartorelli also cites the economic losses that, in its assessment, the restaurant sector would bear with the ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages after 8:00 p.m., “disappearing … the hope of increasing its income at the end of year”. .
