He died this Saturday, (13), the elected councilor of Niterói, Carlos Boechat, at age 70. Death from complications of Covid-19 was confirmed by family members. He had been hospitalized since November 19 at the Santa Marta de Santa Rosa Hospital. Carlos Boechat is the brother of journalist Ricardo Boechat, who died at age 66 in February 2019, after the helicopter crashed.
While in the hospital, he made a good recovery. However, his condition worsened and he had to be transferred to the hospital’s Intensive Care Center (ICU). Born in Uruguay, Boechat was an engineer and, this year, he was elected councilor of Niterói, by the PDT, with 2,916 votes. During his career he worked in the Superintendency of Urban Cleaning of Niterói (currently CLIN), as a civil engineer, worked in infrastructure works in the city and, before being elected, was regional administrator of the Oceanic Region, in the administration of Rodrigo Neves .
Carlos Boechat leaves behind his mother, Mrs. Mercedez Boechat, his wife, four children and two grandchildren.
