President Jair Bolsonaro (no party) said on Thursday (10) that Brazil is facing the end of the pandemic.
“It allows me to talk a little about the government, that we are still experiencing the end of a pandemic. Our government, taking into account other countries in the world, was the one that did the best, or one of the best that did in the pandemic,” Bolsonaro said during a speech at the inauguration of the main axis of the new Guaíba Bridge, on BR-290, in Porto Alegre.
The statement comes at a time when 22 of the federation’s 27 units are facing an increase in deaths from coronavirus, according to the media consortium. It is the first time that so many states appear simultaneously with an upward trend in deaths from the disease since the consortium began tracking these trends on July 9. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 179,032 people have died due to Covid-19 in Brazil.
During a visit to Rio Grande do Sul, the president also participates in the release of 27 kilometers of duplication of BR-116 in Barra do Ribeiro.
“We must bring tranquility to the population and not chaos. What happened at the beginning of the pandemic is leading nowhere. We deeply regret the deaths and, therefore, we are overcoming obstacles.”
Brazil does not yet have a detailed vaccination plan against the disease. On Wednesday (9), Health Minister Eduardo Pazuello said that immunization could begin this month if Pfizer, one of the manufacturers, obtains the emergency authorization from the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) and manages to “advance” a delivery of doses. Still, according to the folder, only a small number of people would receive the vaccine.
In his speech, he cited a drug against Covid-19, which has no proven efficacy.
“We have no news from our brothers in Africa, below the Sahara desert, of a large number of deaths from Covid and everyone expected the opposite. The person with some food deficiency, the poorest people, would be in good numbers and victims. Why not? They treat malaria there, unfortunately, “he said.
During the ceremony, the president was accompanied by the ministers Augusto Heleno, from the Presidential Institutional Security Office (GSI), Onyx Lorenzoni (DEM-RS), from Citizenship and Ernesto Araújo, from Foreign Relations. They did not wear a mask. The use is mandatory in RS since May.
Upon arriving at around 9:25 am at the Salgado Filho airport in Porto Alegre, Bolsonaro was received by Governor Eduardo Leite (PSDB), Senator Luís Carlos Heinze (PP-RS) and Federal Deputy Osmar Terra (MDB-RS) . The party greeted politicians with a handshake.

Bolsonaro cited rising prices this year for staples such as rice and soybean oil. “We avoid a collapse of the economy. Economy and health have to go hand in hand. The field has not stopped, we had an abnormal increase in some products, such as soybean oil, rice. Better, or less bad, to have inflation , what a shortage, “he said.
The increase in food prices in the year is the highest since 2002, according to data published on Tuesday (8) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). With the November result, the accumulated increase from January to November reached 12.14%.
