United States President-Elect Joe Biden to Elect General Lloyd J. Austin III for or charge of Secretary of Defense, The US media reported on Monday (7). If the election is confirmed, the military will be the first black man to head the Pentagon in History.
To be effective, the 67-year-old general you still need your name to be approved by Congress. This is because US law states that military personnel must take a year off if they have been off duty for up to seven years: Austin entered the reserve four years ago.
General Austin stood out during the Iraq war, in which he participated since its inception, in 2003. After starting as deputy commander of one of the infantry divisions, he even led the forces of the pro-American coalition operating in the Middle East.

Austin approached Joe Biden in 2008, when the Democrat was elected vice president on Barack Obama’s ballot. Four years later, the general served as the Army’s deputy chief of staff, the second-highest position in the hierarchy.
In 2013, he assumed command of the United States Central Command and was responsible for designing the strategy to combat Islamic State terrorists in Syria and Iraq.

On Monday, Biden elected a Latin American to head the Ministry of Health, a key position in this pandemic scenario. The president-elect had previously appointed a Cuban-American to head the department that commands immigration and border security. In addition, the new government is expected to have a woman for the first time as its national intelligence director.
