A mysterious disease is associated with the death of one person and hundreds of other hospitalizations in the city of Eluru, in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh India, according to local authorities.

According to a local newspaper, as of Monday (7), some 315 people had already been hospitalized in the same region with similar symptoms. The patients experienced fainting, dizziness, headaches, and symptoms of epilepsy. The tests performed on the patients ruled out any link to the new coronavirus.

“We ruled out water or air pollution as a cause after authorities visited the areas where people became ill,” Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas said in a statement reproduced by the British broadcaster. BBC.

“It is a mysterious disease and only laboratory tests will reveal what it is,” added Srinivas, who said he is monitoring cases with the state’s Prime Minister, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Part of the patients have already been discharged and most of those infected are in a stable state of health.
