RIO – Acting Governor Cláudio Castro and Mayor Marcelo Crivella presented the next steps to confront Covid-19 in the state of Rio, at a press conference this Friday afternoon. restricted. Municipal schools close their doors again, while shopping centers can operate 24 hours a day.
Overload:at least five states occupy 80% of the ICU beds for Covid-19 in the public network
The State Health Secretariat announced the opening of 386 beds, 314 of which are in the ICU. Crivella said that 170 beds will be opened in the municipality in the next 15 days and another 50 in the ICU.
Castro and Crivella presented the full-time operation of shopping centers as an alternative to avoid crowds, which could even reduce the overload in public transport.
– We can go back. So the appeal is that we don’t need to take harsher measures, which would preferably be avoidable. We made a sacrifice of almost a year. For that reason, I call on everyone’s conscience – said Crivella, who said that he had agreed with the commercial representatives to change the schedule. – Shopping centers and shopping centers will be allowed to operate 24 hours a day so that the population does not have to run.
Return: Experts criticize the government’s decision not to resume restrictions as Covid-19 increases
Moments later, Castro returned to the subject and affirmed that the initiative is authorized to extend to the entire state of Rio:
– The measure will be valid while you have this crisis situation. Then, when we get back to normal, we will define the end of that initiative.
The acting governor completed:
– There are established isolation measures. We acknowledge our failure to inspect and enforce this. We understand that well-supervised measurements and bed expansion at this time are sufficient.
Coping measures for Covid-19
Crivellia said that activities in schools will be suspended from Monday 7. The measure, according to him, will help reduce the number of people on the streets and public transportation, as well as prevent pollution in school environments.
Until then, only the 9th grade classes of primary school could attend the units, in addition to the administrative sectors. Adherence, however, was low. Crivella said activities are discontinued until the disease curve in the city can be controlled:
– Municipal schools, on the recommendation of the Public Ministry and the scientific committee, we are interrupting, hoping that we can control this curve and return to stability. This (balance) has been carried out daily in conjunction with our specialists and the State
The mayor of Rio also spoke about the operation of computed tomography scanners 24 hours a day to perform examinations. The expanded service will be offered in state health facilities such as the Getúlio Vargas, Carlos Chagas, Alberto Torrres hospitals in the capital, and in municipalities such as Duque de Caxias, Volta Redonda and Saquarema.
– I appeal to the population mainly not to crowd in places where masks are not used, such as bars and beaches – said Crivella.
Beds in the state
In the health network, which, according to experts, is already collapsing again, the situation is of great pressure for beds, especially in the capital, where there is 99% occupancy in exclusive coronavirus beds that the city offers, and 92% online. SUS regulated by the municipality. In each state, there is a queue of 216 patients for ICU vacancies, 86% filled. Today new vacancies were announced for the next few days. According to the state, there will be 386 new beds, 314 of which are in the ICU. The Rio City Council, for its part, spoke of opening 170 nursing beds in the next 15 days, and another 50 and ICU.
The high bed occupancy rate has been one of the main points. Today, according to the state government, the regulation in the ICU Covid takes, on average, 18 hours for a place for patients. At the nurse, the waiting time is 36 hours. Castro said that he had asked the secretariat for a solution within 72 hours to reduce the wait for admission to the infirmary to less than a day.
– We work on four main pillars: transparency, with the data presented here already placed on the website of the state health department; opening of beds, in partnership with the municipality; the inspection, which began last week, closed more than 40 events and will be even tougher this weekend; and the awareness of the population, with an advertising campaign that starts next week – listed the acting governor.
There is no way back
Despite the position of the technical committee of the mayor’s office, the Public Ministry of Rio and the medical community, in his initial statement, Castro did not speak of reversing the releases at this time:
– The pandemic has not disappeared. We are living through an extremely difficult year. Where everyone had incalculable losses, many were unable to work. Many difficulties, including mistakes by public authorities. The whole world was wrong, we were no different. We need everyone to become aware and take responsibility for not suffering any setback. It is necessary to use alcohol, distance, the use of mask. The pandemic has not disappeared. We are fighting a tough enemy – said the acting governor.
Castro denied having gone in the opposite direction to the technical area:
– We speak with medical technicians every day. We are not disrespecting the technical area of health – he said.
On Thursday 3, Castro once again denied that the State adopts new restrictive measures, despite the recommendation of the experts who make up the scientific committee of the city of Rio to adopt new measures of social isolation. Suggestions include closing schools, banning bathers on beaches, and scheduling business hours, including bars and restaurants.
The mayor’s office of the capital was also pressured by the Public Ministry of the State of Rio de Janeiro to reverse the decisions on the phases of flexibility of the plan that it has followed. The agency issued a recommendation on Thursday 3 to Mayor Marcelo Crivella and the Municipal Health Secretariat so that the regulations adopted are compatible with the indicators regarding the percentage of occupancy of ICU beds in the city.
The MP analyzed the data of the municipality itself and came to the conclusion that since November 20 “all the indicators have entered a rate of exponential deterioration, which indicates the technical need for a phase regression.”
