RIO – Elected in the second round by the City of Rio, Eduardo Paes (DEM) is already beginning to articulate a rapprochement with the state government and the federal government. The elected mayor called President Jair Bolsonaro (No party) this Monday morning, as columnist Berenice Seara said, and has already met with the governor of Rio, Cláudio Castro (PSC).
Interview: I will enjoy the moment; the president, vice president and Guedes are from Rio. ‘They are all from Rio in that government,’ says Paes
– I spoke with him by video call with Senator Flávio Bolsonaro. He said we will work together, in partnership I played with him saying that in 2018 I couldn’t get him out of Witzel. I have a good relationship with the president – he told GLOBO.
The elected mayor organized a trip to Brasilia “now”, with no date yet set. There was still room for a joke: “I said I could have freed him from Wilson Witzel (outgoing and defendant governor), if he hadn’t been wrong. But he voted badly again, but I freed him from the worst mayor in history of his life and the from Rio, ”Paes reported.
Paes has emphasized that he will seek a good relationship with the federal government. One of the first associations should be around testing for Covid-19. In the first interview with GLOBO after the victory, the elected mayor affirmed that he will maintain a “republican and institutional” relationship with the president and the governor and that the transitional position begins now.
When asked if he could lose dialogue with the president due to differences with the federal government, Paes also said that he always had a good relationship with Bolsonaro.
– I am not so. I can think differently, but I will always maintain the dialogue. The interests of the city must be above my political and personal opinions on any office of President Bolsonaro. I’ve always had a good relationship with him. We haven’t spoken in many years. In two elections he supported Witzel and won, and in the other, he supported Crivella and I won. And I respected his position and at no time asked him to do otherwise. I did not ask for your support.
Secretary: Paes studies names of former allies for the composition of the new government
Paes told Globonews this Monday morning that he will seek help to combat the pandemic and that he wants “the vaccine that Anvisa will launch.”
– I want the vaccine authorized by Anvisa. It doesn’t matter if it’s going to be Chinese, Japanese, Russian or German. The important thing is that we have the vaccine as soon as Anvisa launches a vaccine. Our job is to prepare the basic health units, here in Rio there are family clinics, so that they are prepared for when the vaccine arrives, we can vaccinate the population.
Non-legislative: Crivella party closes with Eduardo Paes at the Rio City Hall
He also told GLOBO that he ruled out the lockdown in the city as a measure to combat the virus.
– I think so. We have to work on viable issues. All the data point to a situation in which no confinement is necessary, but rather to establish a dialogue with the population. It is necessary to say: “We will maintain social distance and wear a mask.” And testing, which is essential. It will prevent people from going around spreading the virus. We demand from the population something that they will not fulfill is not ideal.
