Assassinated in late May 2018, J. Hawilla played a key role in Fernando Vannucci’s career after his breakup with Globo. Still under contract, the presenter opened conversations with the owner of Traffic, a sports marketing company that, since 1998, was responsible for the sports department of Rede Bandeirantes de Televisão. The entrepreneur wanted the global as an anchor for Band’s programs. “Come to São Paulo. Everyone here will respect you,” Hawilla said in “three or four calls a day.”

The presenter accepted the invitation and made his debut in Bandeirantes on May 2, 1999, in charge of “Show do Esporte” together with Milton Neves, Silvio Luiz, Luiz Ceará, Oliveira Andrade, Hortência and Sabrina Parlatore. The show jumped from two to 16 ratings, with peaks during the game’s broadcast. The project started great, especially with the first edition of the FIFA Club World Cup, in 2000, presented exclusively by Band in Brazil, and the Mercosur Cup. However, losses in competition with Globo made the consortium last until October 2001.

Of the 120 employees, Hawilla kept 40 and signed a partnership with TV Record. The molds of the new contract, however, were different: Traffic did not interfere with the sports department, only shared transmission costs and billing rights. Therefore, Vannucci began to appear only in sports blocks in the news.

“I didn’t do much at Record. I felt almost useless. It made me feel bad. Sometimes I would come back crying from Barra Funda to Alphaville, where I lived. Really crying, thinking:” I had extraordinary moments in my life and today I am living it. there. “A year and a half ago we found out that our J. Hawilla, God help him, was involved with so much evil. So I was dealing with a gang. But at the end of 2002, the contract ended and in that sense (Hawilla) was even nice to me. He gave me another three months’ salary and kept his health plan. “
