Brazil registered 344 new deaths from covid-19 in the last 24 hours, reaching a total of 169,541 deaths caused by the disease since the start of the new coronavirus pandemic. The survey was carried out by the consortium of press vehicles of which the Twitter It is part of.
Across the country, 17,585 new cases of covid-19 were registered from yesterday to today, totaling 6,088,004 positive tests since the beginning of the pandemic.
With an average of 496 deaths in the last seven days, Brazil had a variation of 51% in relation to the rate of two weeks ago, which indicates an upward trend in the average number of deaths.
Health data
The Ministry of Health reported today that Brazil registered 302 new deaths from covid-19 in the last 24 hours. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the disease has caused 169,485 deaths across the country.
From yesterday to today, there were 16,207 new positive diagnoses for the new coronavirus in Brazil. The country has reached a total of 6,087,608 infected since the start of the pandemic.
According to the folder, 5,445,095 people recovered from the disease, with 473,028 in a row.
Three rising regions
According to data from the media consortium, three regions showed a tendency to accelerate in the death rate: Midwest (42%), Southeast (118%) and South (19%). Northeast (-4%) and North (11%) had stability.
Eleven states grew at the same rate. Another six remained stable and nine states and the Federal District registered a drop in the average number of deaths.
It is important to note, however, that the increases in some states can be explained by the data blackout the country experienced in early November. On the 6th, the Covid-19 death registration platform of the Ministry of Health began to have problems. Several states reported difficulties entering data on the e-SUS platform and published incomplete or even out-of-date information during the week.
The state of São Paulo was one of the most affected, with no deaths for five consecutive days.
In the coming days, this problem in the system should impact the percentage of upward, stable or downward trends in the affected states and also in the national trend.
To measure the situation of deaths from covid-19, experts indicate using the moving average of deaths, which calculates the average of records observed in the last seven days. The operation is the most suitable to observe the trend of the statistics, since it balances the abrupt variations of the numbers throughout the week.
The media consortium adopted this period to verify fluctuations in the moving average. It is possible to speak of a decrease in figures when the decrease is greater than 15% if it is verified in the last 14 days, in this case, the period of the last two weeks. If the numbers rise more than 15%, the epidemic accelerates. Intermediate values indicate stability.

Vehicles gather for information
In response to the decision of the government of Jair Bolsonaro to restrict access to data on the covid-19 pandemic, media Twitter, El Estado de S. Paulo, Folha de S.Paulo, O Globo, G1 and Extra formed a consortium to work collaboratively to seek the necessary information directly from the state health departments of the 27 units of the Federation.
The federal government, through the Ministry of Health, should be the natural source of these figures, but the attitudes of the authorities and the president himself during the pandemic cast doubt on the availability of the data and its veracity.
