The president-elect of the United States, Joe Biden, said in a press conference on Thursday (19) that does not plan to impose a blockade for the whole country. However, the Democrat defended the use of masks in public while the new coronavirus pandemic lasts.

“Wearing a mask is not a political act, but a patriotic duty,” Biden said after meeting with governors.

For the president-elect, total confinement in the United States would be “counterproductive”. “Each region, each area, each community, has differences”, justifies Biden.

Last week, President Donald Trump, who has refused to admit defeat in the presidential election, said he hoped the “next administration” would not impose a blockade. The Republican did not name Biden by name in the statement, but admitted, as has rarely been the case, that he may not be in the White House as of January 2021.

The death toll from Covid-19 in the United States rose from 250,000 on Wednesday. Due to the worsening pandemic in the country, which is increasingly intense in the countryside, US health officials have asked people not to travel for the Thanksgiving holiday next Thursday.

At the press conference, Biden also criticized Trump’s attitude by not acknowledging that he lost the election and not initiating a transition. “Unfortunately, my government has not been able to access everything we need,” the president-elect told the governors of 10 states.

One of the problems mentioned by Biden is the lack of access to working group documents to accelerate vaccine production and research. Trump even accused pharmaceutical companies of deliberately delaying positive study results to reveal them only after the announcement of the Democrat’s victory in the election.

Regarding this Republican refusal to admit defeat, the president-elect told reporters that Trump is sending the world “incredibly damaging messages to democracy” and called the Republican “the most irresponsible president in the history of the United States”.

“It’s totally irresponsible. It shows the world a horrible message about who we are as a country,” Biden said.

Trump’s offensive to reverse the results continues. His campaign now targets Michigan, calling on Republican deputies to the White House to change the verdict at the polls; and in Wisconsin, where the defeated president shelled $ 3 million to force a recount in urban counties where Biden won by a wide margin.

Despite Trump’s accusations, so far no evidence of fraud has been shown. Even GOP governors in some states acknowledged Biden’s victory, as did several world leaders allied with the White House. US government agencies and the OAS also found no irregularities.
