Brazil beats Uruguay at home and remains 100% in the qualifiers

The Brazilian team maintained their campaign with 100% success in the South American Qualifiers on Tuesday night. At the Centenario Stadium, for the fourth day of the qualifying tournament, the Canarian team beat Uruguay 2-0 and Edinson Cavani was expelled.

The only team still 100% after the first four rounds, Brazil leads the Qualifiers with 12 points earned, three more than Ecuador. Uruguay, on the other hand, has six points and is in fourth place in the standings, behind Argentina.

For the fifth round of the South American Qualifiers, the Brazilian team returns to the field to face Colombia, in Bogotá. Uruguay, on the other hand, has another difficult game, as it faces its rival Argentina, in Santiago del Estero. The matches are initially scheduled for March 25, with schedules yet to be confirmed by Conmebol.

The game – The first opportunity at the Centenario Stadium was created by the Uruguayan team. Right at the start of the game, Darwin Núñez received from De la Cruz on the left, cleared Danilo’s mark inside the area and hit hard, hitting the crossbar of goalkeeper Ederson.

The Brazilian team managed to open the scoring in Montevideo in the 33rd minute of the first half. Gabriel Jesús received a cross from Danilo on the right and set up Arthur’s kick from the edge of the area. The ball was deflected at Giménez and killed the Campaña goalkeeper.

In the 44th minute, in a corner rehearsed from the left, Renan Lodi received and crossed into the area. Free, Richarlison completed the header to score Brazil’s second. Shortly afterwards, De la Cruz took a free kick from the left and Godín headed the crossbar.

By losing 2-0, Uruguay saw their situation get even more complicated after 25 minutes into the second half. Cavani received a yellow card from Chilean referee Roberto Tobar for Richarlison’s only tackle on the ankle. Guided by the VAR, the judge reviewed the offer by the monitor and decided to change the warning to red.

At 30 minutes into the second half, after a corner from the left, Uruguay scored through Cáceres. However, the assistant signaled offside on Darwin Núñez’s ball, a decision later confirmed by the VAR.

In numerical superiority, the Brazilian team did not take risks in the defensive field again. Conservatively, the team led by coach Tite valued possession of the ball in the final minutes and secured their fourth victory in the South American Qualifiers.
