Candidate for re-election in Rio de Janeiro, Mayor Marcelo Crivella (Republicans) attacked Globo during an interview with CNN Brazil, this Tuesday (17). The authorized bishop of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God called Record’s rival “Globo trash” and was reprimanded by host Monalisa Perrone.
Bishop Edir Macedo’s nephew, leader of Universal and owner of Record, cursed Globo when he praised the fight against Covid-19 in the capital of Rio de Janeiro. Crivella also told viewers not to believe what “Globo trash” reports on their news.
“We had … 0.1% of our population died, while Globo trash said we would lose 3% of the population,” said the current mayor of Rio. “These things are mere, I would tell you, factoids. Everything you see in Globo’s garbage, you can be sure that if you look with a magnifying glass you will see that it is a factoid, especially when the Ibope investigation has repercussions,” continued Crivella, reinforcing the offensive against Record’s rival broadcaster.

The bishop also called Eduardo Paes, who is running for the second round with Crivella, “a candidate for Globo.” The former mayor did not attend the CNN debate, so the format was changed to a sabbatical. When Crivella finished her speech, Monalisa Perrone instructed her not to attack “people or institutions”, indirectly referring to the station where she worked until 2019.
“Candidate, to reiterate, this is a purposeful moment. So any type and attack on any person or institution is not welcome, to score. In fact, the moment and the space are important for people to listen to their proposals, ”said the presenter.
