For the first time in a long time, the Brazilian team will not be broadcast on open television. Today (16), the Uruguay x Brazil match, scheduled for 8 pm (Brasilia time) and valid for the fourth round of the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers, will be broadcast only through two pay-per-view platforms. In other words: to see Tite’s team against the neighbors led by Cavani, the fan will have to choose one of the payment options.
One of them is EI Plus, Turner’s streaming platform available to UOL Esporte Clube subscribers.
The other is a PPV dp Bandsports, Band’s sports channel, in association with pay TV operators.
Traditional in the broadcasts of the national team, Globo did not reach an agreement with Mediapro, the Spanish company that owns the rights to eight teams on the continent. The talks had evolved but resumed in early November. The Spanish want to close a definitive link for all the games available in their package, while the Rio de Janeiro announcer does not see the need and wants a contract only for the national team matches away from home.
This position of the station is inspired by the new coronavirus pandemic, which caused the group to review and renegotiate values for various events. Another point defended by Globo in this thesis is that only the games in Brazil and Argentina tend to please the Brazilian public and that, for now, the other matches only come to appear in a package. A dispute between Peru x Bolivia, for example, does not usually score well in Sportv. The value of the Mediapro bundle also weighed heavily, considered unrealistic today.
With that, Mediapro contacted Turner and struck a short deal to show the 3rd and 4th rounds of the World Cup Qualifiers, which will only be shown on EI Plus. The Spanish company only earns what Turner sells in packages. Subscribing to EI Plus through UOL Esporte Clube is simple. With a credit and debit card, the subscriber can search for two packages. One, only with EI Plus, costs R $ 19.90. Another, with the platform, in addition to Watch ESPN and Fox Sports, costs R $ 49.90.
Another option will be the BandSports pay-per-event system. Band’s sports channel, in partnership with a consortium of pay TV operators such as Sky and Claro, closed a specific agreement with Mediapro for the fourth round. All games will be shown by paying R $ 19.90. The main attraction, of course, is Uruguay x Brazil. The narration will be provided by Oliveira Andrade and the comments by Neto. For now, only these two paid carriers mentioned above confirm the deal. Whoever has Conmebol TV will not have to pay any extra amount.
