BRASILIA – The Federal Police (PF) opened an investigation to investigate an attack by hackers against the Superior Electoral Tribunal (TSE). The most likely hypothesis is that this occurred in 2001, but the stolen data was only released now, when the 2020 municipal elections are held. Thanks to this attack, personal information of TSE employees was exposed.
Among the published data is information on ministers who were in court in 2001, an indication that the attack is old.

Previously, the president of the Court, Minister Luís Roberto Barroso, said that there was also an attack attempt on Sunday, but that the action was unsuccessful. According to the information available so far, this Sunday’s attack was an attempt to bring down the system through multiple simultaneous accesses and not to hijack data from the Court system. The TSE technology sector is still investigating what happened. The perpetrator of the attack has not yet been identified, but according to Barroso, it probably originated abroad.
