The Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, in São Paulo, warned about the increase in hospitalizations for covid-19 observed in recent days, in addition to the growth in the number of tests performed and in positive diagnoses for the disease. Today, the hospital has 68 beds occupied by patients infected by the coronavirus.

In a note, Einstein reported that, between Thursday (12) and Friday (13) there were 18 new hospitalizations related to covid-19, a figure that exceeds the average number of hospitalizations counted daily in recent weeks.

From the end of September to November 12, the average number of hospitalizations ranged between 50 and 55 patients, according to the hospital, which represents a level up to 26% lower than the current one (68).

The number of positive tests has been increasing gradually since the end of October: between the 20th and the 26th, the daily average was 869 tests, with 82 being positive; from October 27 to November 2, they were 867, but with 97 positives. Between November 3 and 9, the average jumped to 1,017, with 155 confirmations (15.2%).

“The new figures warn of the need to maintain preventive measures: wear masks in any environment, indoors or outdoors, respect social distance at all times, not participate in crowds and perform frequent hand hygiene”, Einstein advises.

Not the only one

With an increase in infections among the middle class in the capital of São Paulo, other private hospitals in São Paulo again registered an increase in visits and hospitalizations for covid-19 during the last month. In the municipal public network, the epidemiological bulletins of the mayor’s office show that the index had been decreasing significantly from month to month, but it ended up parking in November.

In Hospital Sírio-Libanês, for example, the number of admissions for covid-19 had dropped to 80 in October and has now returned to 120, the same level as in April, the most acute phase of the pandemic. Among the patients, 50 are in the ICU (Intensive Care Units).

HCor has already admitted 100 people in the most critical period, but saw the rate drop in the following months. However, three weeks ago, hospitalizations rose again: from 17 registrations, on October 20, to 30, the last day of the month. Since then, the rate has remained above that level.

The data were published by columnist Mônica Bergamo, from the Folha de S.Paulo newspaper.

“On none of the days was the rate lower than 20 admissions a day,” says HCor. Considering just the ICU beds, there were 13 people in the hospital for confirmed or suspected coronavirus cases earlier in the week.
