Speaking to supporters in the Palácio da Alvorada, on Friday (13), President Jair Bolsonaro denied the possibility that the country will face a second wave of coronavirus. Comments were made amid the new increase in the number of cases in nine capitals.
“You see how it was before, how the ministries were, everything equipped in Brazil. How they are working (now), despite this pandemic that put us in debt by more than 700 billion reais. And now there is a second wave conversation. You have to face it if necessary, because if the economy breaks down forever, we will be a country of miserable people. That’s it, ”he said. The information is from the newspaper O Globo.
Bolsonaro has been downplaying the coronavirus pandemic since its inception earlier this year. Last week, the president spoke of “fighting openly” against Sars-Cov-2 and “ceasing to be a fag country.”
However, according to a survey by the Fiocruz InfoGripe system, based on data from the Ministry of Health, nine capitals once again registered an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases.
The municipalities with the greatest tendency to advance, exceeding 95%, are Florianópolis, João Pessoa and Maceió. There is also a moderate probability of growth, greater than 75%, in Belém, Fortaleza, Macapá, Natal, Salvador and São Luís.
In a comment on social networks, federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PSL-SP) also downplayed the possibility of the second wave, saying that the scenario will depend on the elections next Sunday (15).
“In a politicized pandemic, the second wave of COVID may not even occur, if you vote well,” he wrote on Twitter.
